Life is short but art is Long.Man wants to be long lived through art. He puts the instance of his creative power in his work.There are different means of displaying one's creativity.Making sculpture and installing structure as monument is also a great art to be long lived.If we cast our sight to different places of the World,we see many artistic structure. Of them the Statue of Liberty is one of the greatest. It symbolizes the liberty of the United States.Actually the statue of Liberty was not built by the American.It was designed by a famous French Sculptor named Frederic Bartholdi.The Building cost of the Statue was raised by popular subscription. The Statue is built in the structure of Woman wearing flowing robes and spiked crown. She upheld a Torch in her Right hand and carries in her left hand a book inscribed 'July 4,1776.' There is a broken Chain at the foot of the Statue.It symbolizes the over thrown of tyranny.France Presented America the statue it commemorate the independence of the United States in 1876. The Statue was installed on Liberty Island formerly Bedloe 's Island in the harbour of New York.The Statue is actually an iron framework covered by copper sheets.Total height of the Statue from the bottom to the tip of the Torch is 93.5 metres.The length of the figure is 46.4 metres.The right arm is 12.8 metre long,the head measures 8.5 metre from neck to diadem.The weight of the Statue is 254 tones.Though the Statue of Liberty is the symbol of the freedom of America, it has become the global symbol of liberty.
