The word poetry has come from the Greek word 'Poieein' or 'Poicsis' which means (to make)
Some Poets have expressed their Doctrine about poetry....
Such as..
**Plato: "Poetry is merely "inspired madness"
**Aristotle:" Poetry is the art of imitation.
*"Horace: "Poetry is an Art or Craft."
**William Wordsworth: "Poetry is the Spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings-- it takes its origin from emotion Recollected in Tranquility"
**Percy Bysshe Shelley: "Poetry is the expression of the imagination_
**John Keats:" that if poetry comes not as Naturally as the leaves to a Tree, it had better not come at All"
**Matthew Arnold:"Poetry is a criticism of Life"
**Nothrop Frye; "Poetry is vehicle for Morality, Truth and Beauty"
**Richard Gill: ------"Poems are specially made objects in Words"
-----In most of the these definitions four aspects of poetry are obvious:
*1. Poetry deals with Truths
*2. Poetry is a specially made, it is an art or craft
*3. It is suggests,it does not state.
*4. It gives pleasure or delight and the contentment of Grief sometimes...
***It is generally believed that poetry is 'born in grief'
So, Poetry is a metrical composition that suggests certain serious Truths of Human Life with a view to giving pleasure..
